Presentation
summary provided by Ted Clarke: I will start by asking how many MUGS members propose to tackle their own income tax on their Macintoshes. I will emphasize that this is a highly feasible process, which can even be enjoyable. If, for example, you have managed to navigate EBay successfully, you certainly can easily do your own Canadian income taxes, saving dozens or even hundreds of dollars in the process, relative to returns prepared by HR Block or a Chartered Accountant. I will briefly discuss the history of Canadian income tax software for Macintosh (over the past 25 years!); and will then mention the major tax software optionscurrently available -- as approved by the CRA -- for preparing your 2009 income tax on a Macintosh, discussing the advantages and disadvantages of all those taxation software packages of which I am aware. I will then walk the audience through the preparation of one's 2009 tax return on a Macintosh using my favourite tax software (UFile online). Approximately 55 slides are involved. I have devised and registered a mythical family for this demonstration purpose. I will then go on line (if WiFi is available at the March meeting) so as to be in the best possible position to answer any further questions proactively. I would be happy to tackle any questions you might have at this time. Note: If you were unable to attend this excellent presentation, or if you want to review the material and links which were discussed, here's a link to Ted's presentation |
