MUGS CLUB BYLAWS

NAME AND AFFILIATION
Macintosh User Group for Seniors (MUGS)
OBJECTIVES
To promote an understanding and appreciation of Macintosh computers by
sharing information on the capabilities, limitations and potential of
the Macintosh; engaging in complementary activities of common interest
to the members, such as bulk purchasing of hardware and software, and
the acquisition of books and catalogues of related interest.
MEMBERS
Membership is open to anyone 55 or older with an interest in the
Macintosh computer. Membership in MUGS requires payment of dues,
as recommended by the Executive Committee and ratified by the
membership, as set out in the Regulations.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The Executive Committee shall be comprised of the President, Vice
President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Program Chairperson. The Vice
President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Program Chairperson will be
elected for a one-year term at the December meeting. At the end of one
year in office the Vice President will assume the office of the
President and the President will assume the office of Past President.
DUTIES
OF THE OFFICERS OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
PRESIDENT
The President shall preside at all
meetings of the club and the Executive Committee; be charged with the
general management and supervision of the affairs and operations of the
club; and sign the bylaws together with the secretary or one other
elected committee member.
VICE PRESIDENT/PRESIDENT ELECT
The Vice President shall preside in the
absence of the President; and carry out other commitments or special
projects as may be needed.
PAST PRESIDENT
The Past President shall provide
additional continuity between the Executive Committee of one year and
that of the next; preside in the absence of the President and the Vice
President; serve in an advisory capacity on the Executive Committee;
and serve as nominating chair.
The Past President shall be responsible for disseminating club news and
information including announcements of meetings to local media with
special attention to the Internet, to seniors publications and to those
sources dealing with computers; maintain a current media list of radio
and television outlets and computer, community, daily and seniors
newspapers.
SECRETARY
The Secretary shall attend all
executive committee meetings and keep an accurate record of the
proceedings, called “The Minutes” which will be provided to all members
of the Executive Committee prior to subsequent meetings; call the
meeting to order in the absence of the President, Vice President and
the Past President and conduct the election of a temporary chairman;
maintain a current directory of the membership; record attendance at
all meetings; and provide a copy of all bylaws to all members.
TREASURER
The Treasurer shall receive all funds
collected at the general meetings and otherwise keep an accurate
account of receipts and disbursements and report on these as required;
pay all bills by order of the Executive Committee; retain vouchers for
all disbursements and provide to the membership a financial report of
receipts, disbursements and balance on hand at the annual General
Meeting in December.
PROGRAM CHAIRMAN
The Program Chairman shall be
responsible for setting up the program in concert with the Executive
Committee for each general club meeting. This may include, but is not
limited to, inviting guest speakers; arranging for visual
demonstrations of the Macintosh operating system and programs;
initiating new ideas designed to stimulate discussion and active
participation by members; and encouraging active involvement by the
membership.
WEB MASTER
The Web Master shall design, develop,
maintain and support the club’s web page.
COMMITTEES
Committees may be constituted by the membership or appointed ad hoc by
the Executive from time to time as appropriate to the business of the
Club. All committees shall report to the Executive.
ANNUAL AND
OTHER MEETINGS
The annual MUGS meeting shall be held in June at which time the report
of the Executive Committee and the Treasurer’s financial statement will
be presented. In addition, the Executive Committee shall be elected for
the following year. Elected officers will assume their positions upon
adjournment of the annual general meeting. A quorum for all meetings
will me a majority of the membership.
Monthly club meetings shall take place at the regular meeting location
on the second Tuesday of each month from September to June inclusively.
A general meeting may be called at other times by a majority vote of
the Executive Committee.
RULES OF
ORDER
“Robert’s Rules of Order (Modern Edition) 1993” shall govern MUGS
Executive meetings in all cases to which they are applicable and in
which they are not inconsistent with the MUGS bylaws or special rules
of order.
